Happy 2012 from PhotographerLink by Elizabeth

There is something very cathartic and cleansing about January. In spite of the cold and fog that blankets Sacramento this time of year I feel this subtle rumbling of purpose and hope for what the year will bring. 2011 was a big year of crossroads for PhotographerLink©, as it was for many companies rocked by a changing and unprecedented economic time.

At this point one year ago Fred and I had a long heart to heart about our professional direction. We considered earnestly if there was future for photography as we saw many of beloved clients tighten their belts and take many projects in-house or delay them completely. I won’t sugar coat it - the first few months of 2011 we seriously began contemplating our Plan B. This was quite a departure from the previous years where we just knew that hard work and dedication alone would pull it all off. The problem with Plan B is that when you really LOVE your Plan A it is foolishly hard to simply redirect that many years of focus on Plan A to Plan B. So we hunkered down, tighten up a bit more, made some tough choices about what to keep and what had to go. The process was, frankly, unpleasant, but the on going results are worth the effort. We are lighter, leaner and more focused on Plan A than ever.

As spring approached in 2011 the phones got busier, the email in box started filling up. We were actively bidding and winning photography sessions. It seemed like there was a light at the end of the tunnel, but as I’ve heard and laughed about, is that light daylight or the train barreling down the tracks ready to squish you? I don’t believe you can live through a period like 2008-2010 as a small business owner and not feel a small bit of caution moving forward.

Despite the caution, we are excited about 2012 and what it has in store for us personally and professionally. Life is for living and living means rolling up my sleeves, getting in it, trying new things, expanding my horizons. The most obvious of these new changes is this new website. The old one was fine as websites go. It showcased our images but I think it really fell short of sharing about our photography philosophy and how we like to do business. This new one hopefully does justice to sharing the joy and gratefulness we approach our lives and work with.

For 2012 we look forward to reuniting with long time clients and building new professional relationships. We were blessed with lots of travel in 2010 and 2011 and so our passports are in hand and bags ready to be packed so we are counting on more travel both professionally and personally in 2012. Of course we will still be photographing as many architectural projects and product sessions as we can get our hands on.

I am not much of one to make long lists of New Years Resolutions as I like to chip away at that kind of thing all year long but I can say Fred and I have a renewed sense of purpose about keeping this blog thing going. There has been so many times we’ve had a really great session or worked with a new group of people that we think EVERYONE should know about. What a great platform blogging is for that! Then there’s Fred, my favorite tech geek, who loves reading and sharing about the latest gadget or technology or even a historical story about old time photography practices. Fred will also be using some of his emails that ask about certain products or concepts as a jumping off point for his ‘Blog Days’ so drop him a line if you have a question or would love for us to highlight your company or services in our blog. Keep your eye on this section for all that and more.......

Here’s to you all and a very prosperous New Year!
